What is Cosmetic Bonding?
Also called direct bonding, cosmetic bonding uses the same material as tooth-colored fillings to cover many kinds of imperfections. The composite resin, which consists of fine ceramic particles and dental plastic, adheres with the tooth’s natural structure for a strong bond—hence the name. In the right hands, composite resin can look just like enamel, which means that your final results will look and feel natural. With this material, we can fill in gaps and chips, correct discoloration, reshape small or misshapen teeth, and much more.
How Does Cosmetic Bonding Work?
Once you have decided that cosmetic dental bonding is the right solution for you, our team will follow this process:
- We will thoroughly clean your teeth to prepare the surface.
- We will mix the putty-like composite resin in the desired color and apply it to your teeth.
- After shaping and sculpting it, we will use a special curing light to solidify the composite resin.
- We will make some final tweaks to the composite so that it resembles natural enamel and feels smooth.
What are the Benefits of Cosmetic Bonding?
Although dental bonding may not be quite as durable as veneers, they still have plenty of advantages. For example, the process of placing the composite resin does not include removing any of the natural enamel. As a result, this treatment is easily reversible, just in case you change your mind. Other dental bonding benefits include the following:
- It can last for up to 10 years.
- Treatment costs less than veneers.
- The entire procedure can be completed in just one appointment.
