Dr. Shirk grew up in Norton, KS as part of a dental family. His father is also a University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry graduate and still practices as a general dentist in Kansas today. He initially chose a different career path in the aviation industry. After designing airplanes for five years, he felt something was missing. He decided to return to dentistry, and he rediscovered the social connection he wanted while still being able to work with advanced technology like he did as an engineer. Now, he gets to provide exceptional and essential treatments to create a positive impact in the lives of his patients.
Initially, Dr. Shirk attended Wichita State University for Aerospace Engineering before going to the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry to earn his dental doctorate. He then entered the Air Force to serve as an active-duty dentist, completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency (AEGD) at Offutt Air Force Base (AFB). Over the years, he’s been stationed at several locations, such as Malmstrom AFB in Montana and McConnell AFB in Wichita, and held various positions, like the Chief of Dental Services and Director of Clinical Operations.
Dr. Shirk has undergone advanced training in multiple specialty topics—including IV sedation dentistry, wisdom tooth extractions, dental implants, and root canal treatment—and he regularly volunteers at the Kansas and Nebraska Dental Mission of Mercy. He constantly seeks continuing education to further his dental expertise and skills, and he currently holds active memberships in several prestigious organizations.
When he’s not at the office, Dr. Shirk enjoys spending time with his family. He met his wife, Rachel, while attending dental school. Together, they are often busy wrangling their two wonderful children who are also their source of entertainment. Whenever he can, he enjoys doing outdoor activities, such as camping, hunting, fishing, and piloting small aircraft.
A native of Lincoln, Dr. Stephanie McAndrew strives to ensure every patient gets the high-quality and personalized dental care they deserve. With over half a decade of experience and counting, she enjoys being able to form relationships with people while also helping them understand their dental needs and treatment options. Providing essential care for patients as well as promoting a welcoming environment for them is equally fulfilling.
For the longest time, Dr. McAndrew knew that she wanted to have a career in something where she could help people. However, it was when she discovered how dentistry combines science and art in a skill set that can improve the lives of others that she decided to pursue this profession. The rest, as they say, is history.
Dr. McAndrew first attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for her undergraduate degree. After graduating, she went on to complete her studies at the University of Nebraska Medical Center – College of Dentistry to obtain her dental doctorate. Since then, she’s provided high-quality dental care for patients in Lincoln for the past six years and remains dedicated to continuing education courses to refine her skills. She’s also an active member of several professional organizations.
Other than treating people’s smiles and improving oral health, Dr. McAndrew loves spending time with her husband and son. Other than supporting her son in his activities, she also enjoys things like reading, traveling and exploring new places, and having movie nights with friends and loved ones.
Ashley joined our team in 2024 and has been a part of the dental world for over 15 years. A graduate of Kaplan University, she spent over a decade as an assistant and clinical coordinator in pediatric practices before making the jump to general dentistry. As part of Pioneer Greens Dentistry, she says that she loves the staff and dentist she gets to work alongside each day!
Originally from Clay Center, Ashley is married to Marcus, and together, they have two sons and a daughter. Their family is completed by their favorite fur baby, Meila Grace. When she isn’t spending time with loved ones, she likes to watch all types of sports (especially volleyball) and shop for shoes.
Born and raised in Eagle, NE, Kylee studied at Midwest Dental Assisting School to earn her certification. With about a decade of experience in the world of dentistry, she enjoys having a variety of things to do at the office, such as chairside assisting, working in the in-house dental lab, constructing custom dental appliances, helping with complex treatment planning, and answering phones and/or scheduling. She’s also trained in 3D printing and nightguards and is certified in coronal polishing and radiation safety.
Away from the office, Kylee loves spending time with her beloved nephew and her two puppies, Piper and Teddy. Whenever she gets the chance, she enjoys hobbies like reading, golfing, and hanging out with loved ones. Fun fact: her mom also works at a dental office in Lincoln!
Rachel first stepped into the dental world by marrying “the boss,” and she’s been enjoying the ride ever since! Although she had zero dental background when she joined Pioneer Greens Dentistry, Rachel quickly discovered how rewarding it can be to help patients feel at ease. One of her favorite things about the job is watching once-fearful folks gradually become relaxed and even excited about coming in for their appointments. She also loves that her role allows her to learn a little bit of everything (except actually drilling or cleaning teeth!) alongside such a talented and supportive team.
Outside the office, Rachel stays busy raising her two energetic kids, ages 7 and 5. In her downtime, she enjoys crocheting, embroidery, golfing, and lifting weights. As if that weren’t enough, she’s also a medical Speech-Language Pathologist, working PRN at Bryan Health when she isn’t at the dental office. Fun fact: the youngest patient she’s ever treated was only two hours old!
Emily strives to form strong relationships with each of her patients to better serve their dental needs, and she has been doing so for almost a decade. She attended UNL and then UNMC for dental hygiene, and she now has certifications in dental X-rays, local anesthesia, and nitrous oxide sedation.
A Lincoln native who has lived here all of her life, Emily and her husband, Drew, have two children along with two dogs. Together, they love to travel, try new recipes, and visit the zoo.
Shaylie likes to think of herself as an oral hygiene coach, in that she helps people acquire the knowledge and techniques they need to take great care of their smiles between appointments. She is a graduate of the UNMC College of Dentistry and has a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene.
Shaylie has two dogs (an Australian Shepard/ cattle dog mix and a chocolate lab mix), and she likes to stay active by running, weightlifting, and walking the dogs. On the weekends, she also enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as hanging out by the lake/pool when the weather is nice.
Originating from Horton, KS, Emily finds it extremely fulfilling to help patients love their smiles again. Not only is she a joy around the office, but she’s also an incredible asset to the team. You’ll typically find her engaging with our patients as well as helping Dr. Shirk during procedures. She studied at Southeast Community College, graduated with her certification in dental assisting, and has been enjoying every minute of her work ever since.
Emily grew up in a big family with three brothers and four sisters, so she knows what it’s like to be part of a caring and driven team. Other than treating smiles, she loves attending concerts, cooking, online shopping, and hanging out with friends and family. One fun fact about her: she’s currently teaching herself how to play the guitar!
Emma didn’t always picture herself working in a dental office—just ask her parents! However, everything changed in middle school when she had orthodontic work done. That experience sparked her fascination with dentistry and ultimately inspired her to become a dental assistant. Today, she loves the opportunity to talk with patients, ease any nerves they may have, and help them feel comfortable throughout their visits.
Joining the Pioneer Greens Dentistry team has only fueled Emma’s passion for the field. She appreciates how welcoming and kind everyone is, as well as the sense of teamwork and integrity they bring to each day. Outside of work, Emma can often be found spending time with family and friends, hitting the gym, or spiking the ball during a game of sand volleyball!
Capri’s passion for dentistry traces back to her positive childhood experiences—memories that sparked her desire to help others maintain healthy smiles. Each day, she’s inspired by the opportunity to prevent oral diseases, improve oral health, and ultimately benefit her patients’ overall well-being. She also loves being part of a dynamic team where everyone’s unique expertise comes together to provide excellent care.
Outside of work, Capri enjoys staying active by going on walks, lifting weights, and playing volleyball. On weekends, she spends time with family and friends, and whenever she can, she loves to travel and explore new places. Fun fact: Capri was born and raised on a cattle ranch in central Nebraska and is the only person in her family to pursue a career outside of agriculture!
